Aquatic Center Hit by Two-Alarm Arson Fire

A two-alarm blaze that gutted the locker and pool equipment rooms at the Mission Viejo Aquatic Center early Wednesday was intentionally set, fire officials said.
About 35 firefighters responded to the blaze at Marguerite Parkway and Casa del Sol. Nobody was injured in the fire, which caused about $230,000 in damage, said Fire Authority Capt. Kirk Summers.
The fire started in an outside storage area and spread to the locker room and the pool equipment room, where the pool’s pump and filtering systems are kept. The buildings were damaged, but Summers said the pool systems are intact.
The fire took about 45 minutes to control. Anyone with information is asked to call the arson tip line at (800) 542-8282.
