The Top 5 British Open performances by Colin Montgomerie:
1. T-8 at Turnberry in 1994--He was five under, but Nick Price was 12 under and won by a shot over Jesper Parnevik.
2. T-15 at Carnoustie in 1999--Matched his worst round at the Open with a second-round 76, finished 12 over and didn’t get lost in the hay they called rough at this place.
3. T-24 at Troon in 1997--Established his worst round ever with a 76 and finished at even par on what amounts to his home course (his dad is the greenskeeper).
4. T-26 at Royal Birkdale in 1991--He was 10 shots behind Ian Baker Finch and got paid exactly what that was worth ($11,340).
5. T-26 at St. Andrews in 2000--Fourteen shots and light years behind winner Tiger Woods.
