The world’s first recipient of a self-contained artificial heart was put back on a ventilator for preexisting medical problems.
“We continue to be pleased with his progress,” Dr. Laman Gray told ABC’s “Good Morning America.” “We have a pact: He’s going to take me fishing and teach me how to bass fish.”
The patient, described only as a diabetic in his 50s, had been removed from the ventilator Wednesday and was able to talk to his family.
Linda McGinity Jackson, spokeswoman for Jewish Hospital in Louisville, said the man was awake and in stable condition. His family was at his side.
