Heidi, one of the most productive and best-known dogs in Border Patrol history, has died of cancer at age 11, Border Patrol officials announced Tuesday.
In her six years on duty, Heidi found 147 concealed undocumented immigrants, 2,600 pounds of marijuana worth more than $1.9 million, and $70,000 in drug money. She found a lost child for the San Diego Police Department and was used in various public relations events.
“Canine Heidi will be sorely missed,” said a spokesman. The Border Patrol has 29 dogs in the San Diego sector.
