Vincent Montes Jr.; Construction Worker

Ventura County native Vincent Montes Jr., a construction worker, died March 9 at his Santa Paula home. He was 52.
Montes was born Aug. 17, 1948, in Santa Paula to Mary and Vicente Montes.
He served in the Army during the Vietnam War and was commended for saving children who had been buried in a foxhole.
He worked in construction, and family members said he loved to dance. He also had a great sense of humor and enjoyed spending time with his three granddaughters.
In addition to his mother and granddaughters, he is survived by a daughter, Sophia Montes of Oxnard; sisters Lola Mendez and Alice Montes, and brothers Jesus, Rick, Xavier and David, all of Santa Paula.
Funeral services are scheduled at 9 a.m. today at Inglesia Apostolica Church in Santa Paula. Burial will follow with military honors at Pierce Bros. Santa Paula Cemetery, with the Rev. Celedonio Saldana officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Bros. Stetler Mortuary in Santa Paula.
