Why Has Criticism Gotten So Extreme?

If the XFL fails, as appears to be happening, it will not be because of the caliber of play or its colorful new additions to the game, but rather because of the biased reporting and jokes that the “big time” sportswriters and journalists have made about it.
Let’s consider the analogy with sportswriters. Should we read only those who write for the big-city newspapers and make fun of those who write for lesser journals?

J.K. McKay, general manager of the Xtreme, says he can’t understand the criticism leveled against the XFL. He asks, “What have we done to deserve it?”
The answer to that question is painfully obvious, Mr. McKay. You put it on national television where people could see it.
