Bus Tracking System for Riders to Start
The Ventura County bus system on Monday will unveil a program to alert riders of the arrival times for buses via the Internet and at seven bus stops.
The $950,000 NextBus system equips 82 buses with global positioning receivers to relay their locations to a central computer, which will provide location updates every few minutes.
Electronic displays will be at bus stops at Kmart in Santa Paula, the Ventura transfer center, Esplanade shopping center in Oxnard, Amtrak/Metrolink stations in Camarillo and Moorpark, the Thousand Oaks Transportation Center and the Simi Valley Civic Center.
To track buses via the Internet, log on to the Transportation Commission’s Web site at www.goventura.org and click on the NextBus icon.
