The Bush administration has announced a new program that will hand out $1,000 rebates to people who purchase homes owned by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
To qualify for the rebate, the buyer must close the sale within 30 days after the contract is accepted and agree to live in the property as a primary residence for a minimum of 12 months. The sales contracts must be signed by Sept. 30, according to HUD.
There are about 30,000 single-family homes in the HUD inventory of properties nationwide.
