Trans-Siberian Railroad Now Fully Electrified

Russian officials celebrated the full electrification of the Trans-Siberian Railroad line, the world’s longest continuous track.
“The line can now work as a unified system,” Viktor Popov, chairman of the Far Eastern section of the nearly 6,000-mile line, said at ceremonies at the Ruzhino station, according to the Itar-Tass news agency.
The Far Eastern section of the line runs nearly 5,000 miles and carries more than 30% of all Russian exports. Officials said they hoped electrification would boost traffic by up to 40%.
