Label on LAX Shooter Isn’t Racist at All

Re “When a Few Tar the Innocent Many,” July 6:
Muzammil Siddiqi of the Islamic Center of Orange County seems upset that the majority of Americans view the murders at LAX as a terrorist act because of the ethnic background of the murderer.
“People don’t say he was a crazy person,” he complains. “They say he was a Muslim or Arab terrorist.”
No, not really. Americans say he was a crazy Muslim person, just as Americans say the murderers of abortionists are crazy Christian zealots. Such definitions are not “racist,” just a reflection of the multicultural mores of 21st century America.
Hussam Ayloush of the Council of American-Islamic Relations in Anaheim says “the definition [of terrorism] has changed, based on who’s doing it. This is outrageous and racist.”
No, Hussam, not at all. It is simply a reasonable assumption and conclusion arrived at by a people concerned about the survival of their country, their families and themselves.
