Officer Hanging On to Car Kills Fleeing Driver

A Los Angeles police officer trying to give a driver a ticket for an illegal turn fatally wounded the man Tuesday after the driver drove off with the officer hanging on to the car, authorities said.
The incident occurred at 9:30 a.m. at 65th Street and Western Avenue when the officer told the driver, whose license was suspended, that the car would be impounded.
The two men became “entangled” somehow as the driver accelerated over a curb and toward a house, said LAPD Sgt. John Pasquariello. The officer, in fear for his life, fired twice, Pasquariello said.
