Villagers in trucks streamed off the slopes of the Colima volcano after a lava spill prompted authorities to order an evacuation.
About 75 people in villages within six miles of the volcano’s crater were evacuated. More than 200 people had been evacuated over the weekend.
Experts at Colima University said the volcano’s seismic activity had intensified and that its lava crust had broken, causing lava to spill over the southwestern slopes.
This suggests that the 13,000-foot volcano, about 300 miles west of Mexico City, is close to erupting, they say.
