$3.4-Billion Water Measure to Be on Ballot

From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A petition drive by water agencies and others to put a $3.4-billion bond measure for water projects on the November ballot has succeeded, the secretary of state’s office announced.

The bonds would provide money to improve the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, reduce the state’s dependence on the Colorado River, and boost desalination, among other projects.

The California Chamber of Commerce and farmers groups have criticized the amount as too small, and some environmentalists say the measure includes projects that are damaging.
