From Times Wire Reports
Australia plans by June to bring home most of the 2,000 troops it sent to join the U.S.-led coalition in Iraq, Prime Minister John Howard said. Australia contributed three navy ships, 150 Special Air Services troops, 14 F/A-18 Hornet fighter jets, troop lift helicopters and transport and maritime patrol planes to the war effort.
The forces have suffered no casualties so far. Howard said the main combat elements of Australia’s contribution, the fighter jets and the special forces troops, were no longer needed.
