Fitting spectacle

In his review of the Hollywood Bowl orchestra’s performance of “Bolero” with accompanying fireworks (“Multicultural Views of ‘eforeEspana!,’ ” July 28), Lewis Segal poo-poos the fireworks for leading “to the usual generalized and noisy barrage of overwhelming, multicolored pyrotechnics.” On the contrary, I found the choreography of the fireworks delightfully witty and charming.

Even at the end of “Bolero,” they were elegantly and sparingly used -- completely in keeping with the scale of the concert shell and the music level.

My boyfriend and I sat through the display with goofy smiles on our faces, filled with childlike delight.

I felt transported to a magical fairy-tale world and imagined that the theater spectacles in the Versailles gardens for Louis XVI might have been similarly enchanting.
