To mark the 58th anniversary of the first atomic bombing, KPFK-FM (90.7) on Wednesday will air a dramatization of “Hiroshima,” journalist John Hersey’s chronicle of six survivors of the blast and its aftermath. In addition, the station will air archived interviews with Hiroshima survivors, with bomber crew members and with scientists debating the ethics and effects of nuclear war.
“Hiroshima” features a cast that includes veteran actors Tyne Daly, Ruby Dee and Roscoe Lee Browne, and will air from 2 to 4 p.m. The vivid retelling of the events of Aug. 6, 1945, is a presentation of the Pacifica Radio Archives and also will air on other stations in the Pacifica network around the country.
From 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, KPFK will broadcast related interviews from the Pacifica Archives, including a debate between Linus Pauling, chemist and Nobel Peace Prize winner, and Edward Teller, the father of the hydrogen bomb.
