Prosecutors Seek Quick Retrial of Former Officer
- Share via
Eager to retry former Inglewood Police Officer Jeremy Morse in a brutality case, prosecutors have asked the judge to move up the pretrial date more than a month, the district attorney’s office announced Friday.
Morse was caught on videotape last summer slamming a handcuffed teenager onto a car and striking him in the face. On Tuesday, a jury deadlocked and Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Williams R. Hollingsworth declared a mistrial.
The court set Sept. 22 as the date to begin pretrial matters to allow prosecutors time to decide if they were going to retry the case. But that decision took less than a day. The new date being sought is Aug. 15.
