LAPD’s Crime Priorities

In “South L.A. Killings Get Less Police Attention Than Others” (July 28), on the workloads of homicide detectives in South Los Angeles, former LAPD Chief Bernard Parks says: “You can’t come up and say homicides rule the day. Then what is it that you don’t do? Do you not investigate auto theft? Not investigate burglary?” Perhaps the police should stop investigating the victimless crimes. Transfer the vice and narcotics detectives to cover violent crime and allow social workers to attempt to redeem the prostitutes and drug addicts so they don’t ruin their own lives. It seems better to use the police to stop people from taking other people’s lives.
