* Sprint Corp. announced plans to expand its local phone service to most of the country, less than a week after the Federal Communications Commission issued rules essentially preserving that kind of phone competition. Overland Park, Kan.-based Sprint said it would immediately begin offering bundled calling plans in selected markets in 36 states and the District of Columbia.
* Finnish mobile phone giant Nokia said it had signed up heavyweight publisher Electronic Arts Inc. in a development deal for N-Gage, a hybrid phone and gaming platform to be launched Oct. 7.
