No. 1 Kansas vs. No. 21 Stanford
Today, 1 p.m., Channel 9, WGN
Site -- Arrowhead Pond
Records -- Kansas 3-0, Stanford 3-0.
Update -- Kansas’ early rise to No. 1 in the nation, despite the loss of Nick Collison and Kirk Hinrich from last year’s national runner-up, has been in large part due to Keith Langford’s opportunity to step into the spotlight. Not that the 6-foot-4 junior guard didn’t excel in his first two seasons, being named to the Midwest Regional all-tournament team as a freshman and the all-Final Four team a year ago. But given the chance to take charge, Langford has averaged 20.3 points in the Jayhawks’ first three games, making 66% from the floor. Wayne Simien, another veteran, scored 28 points in Kansas’ victory over Michigan State that vaulted the Jayhawks to the top ranking. Kansas leads the all-time series with Stanford, 8-1, including a 4-0 record in games on neutral courts. The Jayhawks have never lost in four games at the Pond. Both schools are unbeaten in two previous Wooden Classic appearances.
