Some bighorns going blind
AFTER about 140 goats escaped from an Arizona ranch and crossed into the Ironwood Forest National Monument, bighorn sheep in that area started to go blind. State game and fish officials diagnosed the condition as pink eye, which causes blindness if not treated. The most common way the bacteria is transmitted is by flies.
About 100 of the wayward goats were rounded up and almost all the rest were killed to protect the bighorn, the last sheep herd in the Tucson area.
