Water Polo Field Has Top Teams

Half of the girls’ water polo teams in The Times’ top-10 rankings are set to compete in the Newport Harbor/Corona del Mar Holiday Cup tournament Friday and Saturday at the two high schools.
Top-seeded Santa Ana Foothill (5-0), which won the 16-team tournament last season, is led by senior Jillian Kraus (22 goals) and sophomore Grace Reynolds (10 goals).
Foothill, a four-time Southern Section Division I champion, will defend its tournament title against second-seeded Newport Harbor (2-0).
The Knights beat the Sailors, 8-7, in last year’s championship game.
Also competing are third-seeded Santa Barbara (4-1), which finished fifth in last year’s tournament, and fourth-seeded Corona del Mar (1-3), which finished third.
San Diego Section representatives Poway and Carlsbad, followed by Santa Margarita and Irvine University, are seeded Nos. 4-8 in the tournament.
Other Southland teams participating are Fullerton Sunny Hills, Huntington Beach Edison, Laguna Beach and Santa Ynez.
