From Staff and Wire Reports
Twenty of Monterey County’s worst juvenile offenders will be moved to a facility in San Jose by the weekend, officials said.
Under a contract approved Tuesday, the offenders will stay in the Santa Clara County Juvenile Detention Center for two to four months.
The cost is $114 a day per inmate. The county agreed to pay no more than $136,800 for the service.
About 70 inmates must be moved from the juvenile hall in Salinas because officials say the 60-year-old building isn’t safe.
