Seven miners were killed when gas exploded at a coal pit in southwestern China, and the contractor of the operation was reported to be on the run.
The blast happened Friday in a mine in Panzhihua, in Sichuan province, the official New China News Agency reported.
The seven killed were the only ones working in the mine at the time of the accident, the agency said.
The boss of the coal pit and two employees responsible for safety inspections were arrested, and police were searching for the contractor, who apparently fled. The cause of the blast is under investigation.
