Re “In a Surprise, Daschle Won’t Run for President,” Jan. 8: Sen. Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) joins Al Gore and drops out of the presidential race. Good idea. Rep. Richard Gephardt (D-Mo.) and Sen. Joseph Lieberman (D-Conn.) are preparing to announce or have announced their candidacies. Dumb idea.
When are politicians going to learn that the most vital attribute a presidential candidate can have is personality? Reagan had it, Carter didn’t. Clinton had it, Bush Sr. didn’t. George W. has it, Gore didn’t. It’s not the economy; it’s personality, stupid.
