Teen in Court on Assault, Endangering Counts

A teenager was arraigned in Newark on aggravated assault and child endangerment charges for allegedly striking a 7-year-old cousin whose corpse was found in his mother’s home.
Wesley Thomas, 16, whose mother was entrusted with caring for the victim and his two brothers, was ordered held at a juvenile detention center.
His mother, Sherry Murphy, who has denied involvement in the boy’s death, is charged with child endangerment.
