Ex-Junta Leader Sought in Alleged Plot

Officials in Sierra Leone declared former junta leader Johnny Paul Koroma a wanted man, linking him to a plot to destabilize the nation as it recovers from 10 years of civil war.
Police raided Koroma’s home in the capital, Freetown, on Saturday and arrested at least 14 people as part of a probe into a Jan. 13 shootout at a military base. Koroma, in a phone interview, said: “I escaped because they opened fire on my residence. I did not have anything to do with the armed attack.”
A junta led by Koroma overthrew the government in 1997. A peacekeeping force later ousted him.
