Witness List Shortened in ‘Friendly Fire’ Case

A military hearing into the accidental bombing in Afghanistan of Canadian troops could conclude two days earlier than expected because the Air Force has scaled back its witness list, says David Beck, a lawyer for Maj. William Umbach. The hearing at Barksdale Air Force Base could end Wednesday, Beck said.
Maj. Harry Schmidt and Umbach were charged with involuntary manslaughter, aggravated assault and dereliction in the “friendly fire” incident that killed four Canadians. The hearing will determine whether they should be court-martialed.
