From Staff and Wire Reports
A horse was struck and killed Monday by a vehicle on the westbound Ventura Freeway.
The accident occurred near Forest Lawn Drive about 8 a.m., said California Highway Patrol Officer Vince Bell.
The horse had been spooked by a coyote and had thrown its rider on a trail near the Los Angeles Equestrian Center, Bell said.
The horse ran onto the freeway through gap in the fence at a drainage culvert, Bell said.
The driver wasn’t injured, but traffic was blocked for nearly two hours, he said.
