From Times Staff Reports
The union that represents Los Angeles County doctors sued the county Friday in a last-ditch attempt to save the jobs of 169 physicians who work in hospitals and clinics throughout the public health system.
Facing mounting medical costs, the county plans to eliminate 864 health-care jobs by July 1.
Some positions are already vacant, leaving about 450 workers who will lose their jobs, said John Wallace, a spokesman for the Department of Health Services.
Another 110 employees will be demoted.
