MTV rocks: Chris Rock will return as host of the MTV Video Music Awards, which will emanate from New York City on Aug. 28.

Going to the movies: “South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are writing a movie for Paramount, “Team America,” that will feature a cast of wooden puppets, Daily Variety reports....

Meanwhile, “Strangers With Candy,” a TV series that once followed “South Park” on Comedy Central, is being turned into a big-screen project by its stars and creators: Amy Sedaris, Paul Dinello and Stephen Colbert.

Reality fare: UPN has given a 10-episode pickup to “America’s Next Top Model,” a staged, unscripted show in which 12 women vie for a modeling contract.
