Two More Homers for Delgado in Win

Melvin Mora can’t believe the season Carlos Delgado is having.

“He’s a monster. This guy is not human,” Mora said after Delgado homered twice to increase his American League-leading total to 25 as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Baltimore Orioles, 13-8, on Thursday night at Toronto.

“It’s just incredible. He’s MVP.”

Mora went two for three for the Orioles, raising his AL-leading average to .370.

Delgado tied his season high with five runs batted in and has driven in a major league-best 86 runs.

“Numbers are great, but I personally want to get to the playoffs,” Delgado said. “I know I can hit 40 home runs. I know can drive in over 100 runs. I’ve done it before, but I’ve never been to the playoffs.”

Oakland 13, Texas 0 -- Scott Hatteberg, Eric Chavez and Terrence Long homered in the third inning, and Tim Hudson pitched three-hit ball for seven innings at Arlington, Texas.

Miguel Tejada and Ramon Hernandez also homered as Oakland hit a season-high five home runs.

Kansas City 4, Cleveland 1 -- Resurgent right-hander Jose Lima pitched seven strong innings and the Royals swept three games from the Indians at Cleveland.

Lima (2-0) gave up five hits and one run in his third start since being signed June 11.

New York 4, Tampa Bay 3 -- Jason Giambi and Raul Mondesi hit two-run homers to back the pitching of Mike Mussina at St. Petersburg, Fla.

Boston 6, Detroit 4 -- Pedro Martinez got his first win in four starts and Trot Nixon drove in three runs to lead the Red Sox to a four-game sweep at Boston.

Chicago 5, Minnesota 1 -- Mark Buehrle won his third straight start with a five-hitter at Minneapolis.
