U.S. Signs Exemption Deal on Criminal Court

The U.S. and Rwanda signed a pact to exempt each other’s citizens from prosecution in the International Criminal Court. The U.S. fears the court, which began operating last year, could launch politically motivated prosecutions of Americans.

Washington has signed such deals with 23 other countries: Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Djibouti, the Dominican Republic, East Timor, El Salvador, Gambia, Georgia, Honduras, India, Israel, the Marshall Islands, Mauritania, Micronesia, Nauru, Nepal, Palau, Romania, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Tuvalu and Uzbekistan.
