Another Magical Evening?

A month after winning the Oceanside Handicap, Magic And Rhythm will try for another victory tonight in the $26,900 La Pacifica Handicap at 350 yards.

Owned by E G High Desert Farms and trained by Concepcion Balderrama, the 3-year-old Red Hot Rhythm filly prevailed by a length over Royalclassic Express in the Oceanside, also at 350 yards. Alejandro Luna will ride Magic And Rhythm, who will carry a high weight of 125 pounds.

The field includes Mongoose Jet Eye, who is perfect in three starts for owner Tom McEwen and trainer Dennis Givens. The daughter of Mr Eye Opener broke her maiden at 29-1 in her debut July 20, then, after an extended layoff, won by a length on Jan. 9 and by a half-length on Feb. 28. She will break from the outside in the field of seven and Guillermo Gutierrez will ride.
