Inflation has affected campaign giving in Thousand Oaks, as the City Council this week approved a 20% increase in contribution limits.
A city finance reform measure approved in 1998 set the per-person limit at $250, but provided for an adjustment every odd-numbered year to reflect changes in the California Consumer Price Index. The index is up 16.1% since then, justifying an increase to $290.25.
The council decided to round it off to $300.
The top vote-getter in last fall’s election raised nearly $100,000 with the $250 limit.
