Homeownership hits new high

Census Bureau data released Tuesday showed the rate of national homeownership hit a new high of 68.4% in the third quarter, surpassing the previous record of 68.3% in the fourth quarter of 2002.
The third-quarter rate means there are now 72.18 million families who own their homes, up 0.4 percentage point from the second quarter.
Minority homeowners totaled 14.35 million, or 49.3%, in the third quarter, up 0.4 percentage point.
