245 Prisoners to Be Freed Ahead of Holiday

Jordan’s King Abdullah II ordered the release of 245 detainees, including political activists held without trial, ahead of a Muslim feast to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan, officials said.
The decree announced before this week’s Eid al-Fitr holiday would free some suspects held for petty crimes but not prisoners with criminal records or those linked to serious crimes, such as premeditated murder, rape or drug trafficking, said government spokeswoman and Minister of State Asma Khader.
