L.A.’s Harkleroad awarded Room grant

Los Angeles sculptor Jeannine Harkleroad, 28, has been awarded the $50,000 Gift of Freedom Award from A Room of Her Own Foundation.

Harkleroad’s “performance sculptures” are large installations that incorporate projected images, objects and people.

In addition to the financial assistance during the two-year grant period, recipients are given professional support and mentoring.

The goal of the nonprofit foundation is to help women writers and artists bridge the gap between their artistic vision and financial realities. The first grant in 2002 was given to poet and fiction writer Jennifer Tseng to work on her second book of poetry.
