Every point in David Shaw’s column (“A Dominant Candidate Dominated Press Coverage,” Oct. 12) about the media coverage of Arnold Schwarzenegger is true. The mainstream media were dizzy with delight and political reporters suddenly had stars in their eyes. The media made his candidacy by giving it a legitimacy it might not have attained on its own. The media were smitten beyond reason.
Where was David Shaw when it was all going on? Where was any media critic? The time to mention the emperor’s lack of clothing is when it might do some good. This self-righteous, after-the-fact finger-wag is as ridiculous as the campaign itself.
