Judge OKs Change of Venue in Nichols Trial

A judge refused to dismiss state charges against federal building bombing conspirator Terry L. Nichols but said he would grant defense attorneys’ request to move the trial outside of Oklahoma City.
Researchers testifying for the defense had said media coverage of the 1995 bombing and Nichols’ federal conviction made it impossible to pick a fair and impartial jury in Oklahoma. Although State District Judge Steven Taylor agreed to move the trial, he said he lacked the authority to move it out of state as Nichols’ attorneys had requested.
