Foreign Minister Is Stabbed While Shopping
- Share via
Sweden’s foreign minister was stabbed repeatedly while shopping in a Stockholm department store, shocking a nation that has long prided itself on the accessibility of its politicians, who rarely use bodyguards.
Police said they didn’t believe the attack was politically motivated, but it stirred memories of the 1986 assassination of Prime Minister Olof Palme.
Foreign Minister Anna Lindh was stabbed in the abdomen, chest and arm, and police were searching for a man in a camouflage jacket who fled the store. She underwent surgery on her liver and stomach and was in critical condition.
