Fire Controlled as It Threatens Homes

A raging brush fire forced residents from their homes Tuesday afternoon before firefighters were able to get the blaze under control.
Some 300 firefighters from 15 area agencies were called in to battle the flames, which burned about 70 acres and threatened several homes overlooking the Salinas Valley.
Six air tankers, four helicopters and a spotter plane also were called in to help knock down the fire.
