A 13-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl were killed on a South Los Angeles street corner Wednesday evening by drive-by shooters, police said.
The victims, who were not identified, were with half a dozen youths standing on 54th Street near Normandie Avenue about 7 p.m. Police said three people in a compact car drove by, fired several shots and sped off.
The girl died at the scene. The boy died later at Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center, police said.
Hours later, detectives and officers with police dogs were combing the residential neighborhood in search of the shooters. Police said they were believed to still be in the area.
“We have received information that hopefully will lead us to the suspects,” Lt. Evangelyn Nathan said.
The shootings occurred one day after three teenagers were seriously wounded by drive-by shooters outside Taft High School in Woodland Hills.
