A former Mobil Oil Corp. executive was sentenced to 46 months in prison for evading taxes on $7 million in secret payments, including a kickback prosecutors say he got for helping Mobil buy a share of a Kazakhstan oil field.
J. Bryan Williams, 63, admitted in June that he didn’t tell his employer or U.S. tax authorities about $7 million he got from “people, organizations and governments with whom I did business on Mobil’s behalf.”
Mobil, a unit of Irving, Texas-based Exxon Mobil Corp., is under scrutiny by prosecutors who also have subpoenaed documents from ChevronTexaco Corp. Williams isn’t cooperating with the probe.
Exxon Mobil shares rose 24 cents to $37.08 on the NYSE.
