Toshiba to Cut 200 Jobs at American Unit

Toshiba Corp., Japan’s biggest notebook computer maker, said it would cut about 200 jobs at its American Information Systems business, as part of a reorganization of the unit.
The cuts, which would take place over six months, would reduce the unit’s workforce to about 1,050 from about 1,250, the Irvine-based division said.
Toshiba American Information Systems is restructuring to focus on the mobility market.
A traditional products division isn’t sufficient to address that market from a sales and marketing perspective, Hidejiro Shimomitsu, the president of the U.S. unit, said.
Tokyo-based Toshiba’s U.S. shares were unchanged at $4.50 in over-the-counter trading. The news was released after the close of U.S. trading.
