BEA Systems to Buy Plumtree Software

BEA Systems Inc., whose software manages the exchange of information among Internet-based business programs, said it would buy Plumtree Software Inc. for $200 million in cash to add products that link work groups.
Holders of Plumtree will receive $5.50 a share, San Jose-based BEA Systems said. BEA Systems also will assume outstanding Plumtree options. The transaction is expected to be complete by the end of the year.
San Francisco-based Plumtree, with about 400 employees, has more than 21 million users worldwide and more than 700 customers, including Airbus, Ford Motor Co. and Starbucks Corp.
Shares of BEA rose 9 cents to $8.89. Shares of Plumtree rose 19 cents to $4.86.
