Swiss voters approved participation in a European Union passport-free zone even though Switzerland does not belong to the 25-nation bloc.
Signaling a desire for closer integration, about 55% of voters supported joining the EU passport-free zone by 2007, which allows travel to 15 participating countries without border checks.
