Los Angeles Dorsey figures to be a favorite over Woodland Hills Taft to win the boys’ title at the City Section track and field championships today at Lake Balboa Birmingham.
The freshman-sophomore division field events begin at 2 p.m. with the first varsity running event schedule for 5:30.
Dorsey is led by senior David Gettis, the defending City and two-time defending State champion in the 400 meters. Gettis will also anchor the Dons’ 400- and 1,600-meter relay teams.
Junior Jamere Holland of Taft, who ran a nation-leading time of 10.38 seconds in the 100 at the City preliminaries last week, is also in the 200, where he was the top qualifier at 21.11. Unfortunately for the Toreadors, both their relay teams were disqualified last week.
Gardena will try to hold off challenges from Birmingham, Woodland Hills El Camino Real, Dorsey and Carson, in the girls’ competition.
The Panthers are led by junior Myra Hasson, who had top qualifying times in the 200 and the 400 and is part of the 400- and 1,600-meter relay teams,
