Sean Newhouse, who has just concluded a two-year stint as assistant conductor of the Cleveland Pops Orchestra, has been named music director of Los Angeles’ Young Musicians Foundation Debut Orchestra.
Next season, Newhouse, 24, a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music, will step onto a podium formerly occupied by such conductors as Michael Tilson Thomas, Andre Previn, Myung-Whun Chung and, most recently, Joana Carneiro, who was appointed conducting fellow of the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 2004.
Newhouse has also led the National and New World symphonies and in June will return to the American Academy of Conducting at Aspen, Colo., for a second summer as a fellowship conductor.
