A Sun City couple died last week when the man shot himself and the bullet passed through his head and hit his wife in the forehead, Riverside County sheriff’s deputies said Saturday.
The woman was standing about 8 feet away, authorities said. “It’s strange,” said Deputy Juan Zamora. “I have never seen something like that, and I’ve been a deputy for almost 10 years.”
Authorities found the couple about 10 a.m. Thursday outside their home in the 27000 block of Murrieta Road. A pistol was on the ground near the man.
Witnesses told deputies that the man, 84, and woman, 71, were arguing in front of their home when the man pulled out a handgun and shot himself.
Authorities declined to release their names pending notification of relatives. They said the couple had been married nine years and recently moved to the area.
